Oak Island Lighthouse 10k Run & Walk

The Oak Island Lighthouse 10k offers runners and walkers a challenging course with unique and breathtaking views. The 10k event will begin and end at the Middleton Park Extension on Oak Island. You will find it difficult to match the view of the Atlantic Ocean and coastal marshlands.

 

The 10k course visually delights participants beginning at Middleton Park Extension where you will be cheered on by the sounds of seagulls and ocean waves lapping our beautiful beaches. The route continues north on Dolphin Drive to 6th Place East turning around and making a quick turn onto 9th Place East where you will cross the first of two walkways across the Davis Canal. 

 

Look for the Oak Island Police Officer who will make sure you safely cross Oak Island Drive and continue down 9th Street to Yacht Drive.  Enjoy the views of the Intracoastal Waterway  until you reach 31st Street, where you will turn right and follow 31st Street across Oak Island Drive to the second of the walkways and the only “hill” on the course. 

 

Back on the beachside of Oak Island, take 29th Place East to Dolphin Drive. Turn left onto Dolphin Drive which will take you down the homestretch to the Start/Finish Line.

Chalk Art at the Start:

6:00am- 7:00am @ Middleton Park Soccer Field, Dolphin Drive/SE 46th Street, Oak Island. Arrive early and help create a unique Start/Finish Line by participating in the Chalk Art at the Start. Chalk will be provided. Sponsored by Pescado y Amor Paint Studio

 

Race Day Stretch & Warm Up:

Join us as Ilene Evans, yoga teacher will lead a free 10 minute Warm Up at 7:00 a.m. & 7:45 a.m. at the Middleton Park Extension Soccer Field. 

 

Water Stops: Start Area, near 1-mile (1910 Dolphin Drive), near 3-Mile (Yacht Drive between 14th & 15th Streets), & Finish. Waterstops manned by:  TBA

 

Parking:  Street Parking.There is plenty of parking around the Start/Finish area on race day! DO NOT Park along the course routes!

Do Park:

  • First Baptist Church at Oak Island 4608 E. Oak Island Drive has parking around the church and a lot on NE 48th Street.  
  • Oak Island Town Hall -4601 E. Oak Island Drive.  Parking behind and along the side of Town Hall and on SE 46th Street to Pelican Drive. (do not park beyond Pelican Drive on SE 46th Street). 
  • Pelican Drive from SE 46th to SE 40th Street.
  • SE 49th Street along the sides of the road and in grass parking area designated with volunteers. 
  • Cabana Parking Lots on Dolphin Drive.  There are three large parking lots but they can only be accessed by turning off  SE 49th Street. DO NOT access from SE 46th Street.  

 

Online Pre-Registration:

@ NC Baptist Assembly at Fort Caswell, 100 Caswell Beach Road, Caswell Beach

Parking Details: Stop at Guard Gate and identify yourself with the Oak Island Lighthouse Run/Walk. Registration building is the first building to the right. Park in the open area in front of the pool.

Parking Details: Street parking. To avoid a ticket, make sure all four tires are off the road. Please do not park on the race routes.

 

Non-Refundable Fees:

Until January 14th - $35.00 per person

January 15th - March 11th - $40.00 per person

March 12th - April 10th - $45.00 per person

April 11th - April 13th - $50.00 per person

 

Children ages 6-15, Active Military and Law Enforcement

Until January 14th - $25.00 per person

January 15th - March 11th - $30.00 per person

March 12th - April 10th - $35.00 per person

April 11th - April 13th - $40.00 per person

 

Ages 5 and under free (Untimed - No shirt)

 

Included in Fees:

Timed race bib, water, Gatorade, fruit, pizza, Pelican SnoBall, One Beverage Token (must be 21 years of age or older to receive beverage token) redeemable at the Check Six Brewery Beverage Tent on April 13th. Guaranteed T-shirt if registered prior to March 11th.

 

First Aid Tent - Coastal Companion Care is providing staffing for the First Aid Tent.  If you need a bandaid, some ice or your blood pressure checked, please visit the First Aid Tent located near the Start/Finish Line.  If needed, The Town of Caswell Beach, Town of Oak Island and Brunswick County will provide paramedic level assistance on the course and at the Start/Finish area. 

After your race, participants are invited enjoy a Pelican's SnoBalls on us. 

 

T-Shirts:

Shirts in male and female cuts. Men's Hanes Cool Dri crew neck shirt.  Female Hanes Cool Dri V neck shirt. Participants registered by March 11th are guaranteed a shirt.  Shirts not picked up by 7:30am on April 13th will be forfeited.  2019 shirt design will be posted soon.

Finisher Medals:

New medal design for 2019 will be posted ASAP.  All 5k & 10k finishers will receive a race medal to show off their accomplishment. Finisher medal will be similar to the 1 Mile Fun Run medal.  Photo will be posted when available.

Sample Award from 2018. All awards will be distance specific.

 

10K Awards Ceremony:
The awards ceremonies for all the runs will begin at 10:00am. Award winners are responsible for picking up award at the awards ceremony or at the Chamber Welcome Center the Monday following the event.

 

Awards:

Print with special artwork by Ricky Evans, a self taught artist whose name has become synonymous with lighthouses along the eastern United States coastline.  Ricky Evans opened his own gallery, Art @ 211 The Ricky Evans Gallery located at 211 N. Howe Street in Southport, NC. A framing discount is given for the prints.

Race Transfers:

Entry Fees are non-refundable. Transfer to another Lighthouse Race:  Registrants may request a race entry transfer from the 2019 race to the 2020 race. The request must be submitted by 12:01 am on Monday, April 8,2019.
