Frequently Asked Questions

1. Are Overall Winners Eligible for Age Group Awards?

The top three runners overall will not be eligible for age group awards.

2. May I pick up my race packet before Race Day?

Yes.  You may pick up your packet at the Welcome Party with Registration & Packet Pick Up: Friday, April 21,2017 from 5:00p.m. to 8:30p.m. @ Cape Fear Yacht Club, 4791 Fish Factory Road, Oak Island.  There will also be Music by Soul on the Beach band, food for sale and cash bar – The Seafood Hut Food Truck.

3. May family or friends pickup my race packet at Packet pickup?

Yes.  Just make sure they know your age and which race you entered so that they can verify your race bib information is correct.

4. Do you allow Running Strollers/Child Joggers?

We are sorry but strollers/child joggers are not allowed on the 1/2 marathon courses. We also suggest using caution on the 10k, 5k course and 1 mile. This is for the safety of the runner and the child since the courses are open to traffic and some areas of the road do not have a wide shoulder. The 10k course also has an added safety concern with the transitions on the wooden walkways.  Anyone with a stroller in the 10k, 5k and 1 mile will be asked to begin the race at the back and to yield to other runners. The child in the stroller will not be timed only the paying adult.

5. I can't stay for the Awards Ceremony how do I get my award?

All award winners are responsible for picking up the award at the awards ceremony on Race Day or at the Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce Welcome Center the Monday after the run.   The Chamber's Welcome Center is open 8:30a.m. - 5:00p.m. Monday - Friday and is located at 4433 Long Beach Road Southport (across from GoGas). If you cannot get to the Welcome Center during our hours call us at (910) 457-6964 and we will make pick-up arrangements.  We can also mail the award for an additional fee.

6. Is there a time limit for the 1/2 Marathon?

Yes.  The time limit for the 1/2 Marathon is 3-hours.

7. Is this a closed course?

No. Runners will share the road with regular traffic. All runners will run against traffic.

8. What are the awards?

Showcasing our wonderfully talented artistic community our awards are unique to our area.  Ricky Evans, a self-taught artist whose name has become synonymous with lighthouse along the U.S. Coastline, produces a print especially for the Oak Island Lighthouse Run. We transfer his artwork to a print which, are given out as our awards. Ricky Evans also offers a framing discount to the award winners at his gallery Art @ 211 The Ricky Evans Gallery, 211 N.
